Jo was inspired to pursue her chosen career by Baan Nit, an 87-year-old grandmother who taught her traditional Thai Massage in Thailand in 1994. It's now been over 20 years since she she first started studying of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) by embarking on a full time BSc (Hons) Acupuncture Course at the Uni of Westminster, London.

Like many practitioners do, she found ‘acupuncture’ following disillusionment with western medicine for her own personal health problems. This initial training allowed her to delve into the rich history of Chinese Medicine, with thousands of years of observation and study that is well documented. It opened up a whole new way of thinking and living for her.

She has completed 2 hospital study trips to Hangzhou China and one to Australia and seen Chinese Medicine in a fully integrated healthcare system; That is TCM hospitals with departments of acupuncture, massage and western medicine. This means TCM Doctors can use all the diagnostic capabilities of modern medicine including pharmaceutical drugs when appropriate.

Following her first study trip to China she returned to London and studied for a further two years on a Post Graduate Degree course (Westminster Uni) in Chinese Herbal Medicine, gaining a first class distinction. It was during this time she spent one-months clinical training in Australia with Jane Lyttleton and Steven Clavey who specialise in Chinese Gynaecology and Infertility.

Gynaecology is an area of particular interest for Jo. She has written articles on her PMS research for Positive Health (Nov 2000), and the National Association of Premenstrual Syndrome (NAPS).

In 2007 she completed another study trip in China, and in 2008 achieved a distinction for her Master of Science (MSc) in Chinese Herbal Medicine in which she investigated the efficacy of Chinese herbs for male infertility.

In 2009 Jo trained whilst pregnant as a hypno-birthing practitioner which reflects her ongoing commitment to understand all aspects of women's health care. And following the birth of her daughter she left her London practice behind for Rutland and has in more recent years been practicing in Stamford, Lincs.

In Spring 2017 she is thrilled to be opening a new Chinese Medicine clinic in Mill Street, Oakham including her own powdered herbal pharmacy to offer Chinese medicine to the public. At the clinic patients will receive a personalized comprehensive health assessment from Jo, and where necessary lab testing (blood, saliva, breath, stool or urine) and a combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicines, supplements, dietary and lifestyle changes.

And for the future? She would love to see a fully integrated healthcare system where the best of both medical systems are used to enhance patients’ welfare...both systems have so much to offer.
